Joycelyn Ann Harper Lorio of Pineville, LA, passed away of natural causes on December 8, 2018. A memorial service will be held at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church , 2211 E. Texas Ave., Alexandria, LA, Thursday, December 13, 2018, at 1:30 PM, with a gathering of friends and family immediately afterwards in the Ducote Hall.
Joycelyn was born on December 20, 1939, the daughter of Althea Wild Harper and William James Harper. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Dr. John F. Lorio of Pineville; and her children, Patricia J. Chapman (Chris), and Cameron J. Duchman; her stepchildren, John F. Lorio, Jr., Dr. Jerry J. Lorio (Dr. Allison) and Jean Ann Weaver (M. Scott). She is also survived by her brother, William J. Harper, Jr. (Elly); niece, Anne Hellstrom (Eric) and nephews, Grayson and Gavin Andra and a host of friends.
Joycelyn graduated from Warren Easton High in New Orleans and worked for many years until her retirement from Southern Bell (South Central Bell). She was the owner of a Metairie based travel agency where she lead many devout travelers to the holy place of Medugorje, (now Bosnia), where her faith was strengthened through Our Lady.
In her early adult life, she enjoyed riding her Palamino, “Buttercup”, in Mardi Gras parades and later found so much pleasure, together with her children, volunteering in the area. She joined the Krewe of Iris, where she served as a maid in the ball, spreading her joy with family and friends. She was also a founding member of the Red Hat Society in Denham Springs, and a member and President of the Rambling Rose Gardeners, Dist. 2. Joycelyn was also a member of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Alexandria, LA. She was a loving wife and mother and will be dearly missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN, or your favorite charity. Interment will be private at a later date.
