Obituary for Ruth Cunningham Chevallier

Ruth Cunningham Chevallier
Ruth Cunningham Chevallier- wife, mother, grandmother, life-long care taker, passed from this life to her Heavenly home, surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, July 2, 2019.

Ruth was born in Oakdale, LA, on May 8th, 1930 to Henry Thomas “Steve” and Rosalea Vallery Cunningham.
Ruth was born with a servant’s heart, which played a part in choosing her career path. Her passion, along with caring for and loving her family, was helping children at Pinecrest State School, where she was a long-time nurse in various departments, before retiring in 1992. She was an avid reader and the oldest living member of Mt. Herman Baptist Church, where she served in many capacities; from Sunday school teacher and director, Vacation Bible School teacher and director, to a host of various church committees. She was a childhood member of the Pentecostals of Alexandria. Ruth will always be remembered for volunteering to take friends and family from the Walters Community to doctor appointments in Alexandria.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband and love of her life, and father of her children, Wanie Chevallier; her second husband Clinton Lachney; and her last husband, Willard Chevallier, Sr.; brothers Howard Cunningham, Dan Cunningham, and Jack Cunningham; sisters Audrey Berthelot, Joy White, and Mamie McGee Derbonne.

She will be greatly missed by her children, Gail Beach of Sante Fe, TX; Glynn Chevallier of Alexandria, LA; Jackie Rouse and husband Raymond of Jonesville, LA; three grandchildren, Jami Temple and husband Jonathan of Sante Fe, TX; Joshua Beach and wife Jennifer of Natchez, MS; and Jennifer Cowart and husband Chris, of Pineville, LA; four great-grandsons and one step great-grandson, Travis Conner of Sante Fe, TX; Jax and Brandt Beach, of Natchez, MS; and Brennan and Collin Cowart of Pineville, LA. She is also survived by her sisters Amy Leviner and Ruby McKellar of Alexandria, LA, brother, Tommy Cunningham of York, PA, along with a host of nieces and nephews and other family and friends.

Visitation will be at 9:30am to 11:00am, Saturday, July 6, 2019, with service to follow at 11:00am, with Rev. Bruce Lofton officiating at Bethel Methodist Church, followed by burial services at Bethel Cemetery in Deville, LA. Arrangements are by Magnolia Funeral Home of Alexandria, LA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Herman Baptist Church, Jonesville, LA or the charity of your choice.
