Obituary

Amy Nicole Matthews, 37, of Vidalia, Louisiana passed away peacefully on May 4, 2020 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. May 9, 2020 at Heard Cemetery in Manifest, Louisiana with Bishop Jerry W. Dillon and Pastor Joel Ford officiating. Visitation will be held at Heard Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. May 9, 2020. Services will be under the direction of Magnolia Funeral Home. Amy was born April 12, 1983, the first daughter to Mary Alice Paris. As a child Amy enjoyed adventures with cousins and friends. She loved her weekly shopping trips to Alexandria with mom. Through her teenage years she enjoyed hundreds of camping trips with her family and close friends all over the United States. As she grew her artistic abilities began to shine! Amy would only have to glance at a person and would be able to sketch their face in the most beautiful, lifelike way. She enjoyed ‘bone hunting’ and shopping for unusual furniture pieces to refinish. Amy was known to craft chairs, tables and shelves out of forgotten about wood for her closest loved ones. Photography was a favorite hobby of Amy’s. She loved the idea of catching a passing moment in time, in print to keep forever. Amy was a collector of all things: clothes, books, picture frames and cabbage patch dolls as a child. There were few places she loved more than the creek, lake, beach or open fields. In her last few months she discovered a newfound love of fishing (night or day), especially with her mother and son, Stratton. She is preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Alice Matthews of Jonesville, LA; late grandfather, Leon Matthews of Natchez, MS; great grandmother Rose Mary Ford and great grandfather D.C Ford of Jonesville, LA; Uncle Bill Lowery of Vidalia, LA. She lives on through her three sons, Stratton T. May of Vidalia, LA; Gunnar Byrd and Ryder Byrd of Monterey, LA. Her beloved mother, of Vidalia, LA; three sister, Briston Paris, Alison Paris and Jaycee Paris of Vidalia, LA; uncle Jacky Ford of Jonesville, LA; step-father Bobby Paris of Venus, TX; grandparents Ray and Martha Paris of Monterey, LA; aunt Katie Ray of Monterey, LA; special aunt Becky Lowery of Vidalia, LA; close cousin Brandy Cowan of Vidalia, LA; beloved, one and only Yorkie, Murphy; special person Duffy Guillory and very best friends Chris Burr; a number of cousins, great aunt and uncle, friends and loved ones. Pallbearers will be Matthew Ford, Devin Ford, Jackie Ford, Will Cowan, Billy Ray Lowery and Colby Cowan. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Burr and Bobby Paris. Her radiant smile, contagious laughter and quirky humor will be missed but never forgotten.
